Borgo Finocchieto, Tuscany 2011

Tuscany in July.

I stayed at the Borgo Finocchieto. (See cover story "Travel & Leisure" July '11 issue.) This is part of the vista of one of the most peaceful and creatively restorative places I've yet to visit.

Florence on a summer Saturday has a superior one-day market of stalls. Shopping shots not included here.

The Borgo is located about 30 minutes southwest of Sienna. Here are two of the five buildings that have occupied the hill top for centuries.

The castle is still occupied, but the moat is filled in.

My fellow guests—we were a group of ten friends—poolside after lunch.

The vista on the patio just before cocktails.

The 50-meter pool has an unparalleled location.

Sit in this chair and the world you left behind will be in a newly clear perspective. I was truly happy and superbly relaxed during my week at Borgo Finocchetti. A one-of-a-kind destination.
